  1. Excellent article 14023, thanks a lot for sharing…I am just starting my journey into network programmability.

  2. Hi Jeff,

You wrote “One weekend spent with a Python course and one more weekend with a DevNet course on YANG will give you a tool you can use to make your life easier.” Do you happen to have any useful links that would point me and others in this direction? In the new CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure SD-Access and SD-WAN are listed along with NETCONF/YANG/Ansible automation. I would like to pass this one day, but I don’t know where to start, I have a CCNP, but no automation exposure.

    Thank you in advance.

    • Mark,

      Try: http://realpython.com/

It’s a great overview of Python. There is a three-part course, last I looked at it, but part 1 is the most useful. There is also a book called “Automate the Boring Stuff” by Sweigart. If you have access to the Cisco Live content library, look for any presentation by yours truly or by Hank Preston.

I worked with the CCIE team on the blueprint for the new exam and it is, indeed, intimidating. Of course, the CCIE was always intimidating. The best thing to do there is to hook up with one of the training partners (official or unofficial) and get their advice on how to study. SD-Access particularly can be challenging in terms of equipment, but I also don’t expect it to be super-deep on the first version of the exam. (Disclaimer: I haven’t seen the exams in a while, and of course, could not disclose the content if I had. Just speaking in general terms here.)
